Jayson Love, better known by his stage-name Man, stylized MAN, is an entertainer who has a daily live webcast show on Twitch, Man vs Game, stylized MANvsGAME, where he plays video games.

Twitch channel[ | ]

Biography[ | ]

Love graduated from Minnesota State University in East Asian studies focused on Japanese language and culture in 2005.[1][2]

Love started broadcasting on Justin.tv in between odd jobs[1] under the name Man vs Game from a studio in the basement of his home in Montana.[1][2] He uses a green screen to superimpose himself over the footage of the game he is playing. Early 2013, when the show began to suffice as Love's sole source of income, he quit his other job and became a full time professional broadcaster. In 2013 he expected it to be possible to receive an income of over $100,000 for 2014 from advertisement and subscription revenue.[3][4]

The Daily Dot's Kevin Moris describes the appeal of the show in Love's ability to interact with his viewers, and the personal atmosphere he creates.

Drug addiction[ | ]

On December 7, 2015, Jayson went on stream saying that he has a serious problem with drugs abuse. "Every single time you've seen me, I've been pretty much saturated with speed. With amphetamines, like Adderall." He spent over an hour explaining that he had been using drugs and streaming as an escape from his crippling depression. Certain friends of his had reached out and tried to help him, but given as he is a very private person who likes to keep to himself, he did not find this helpful in the least. "This is extremely difficult for me, and like I said, I'm a very private person," he said. "I feel like I've definitely been made to sort of just do this. I have to comment on it now. I still don't feel like this is what needed to be done, or what ultimately is helpful."[5]

Jayson also spoke out against people believing that they are close to him and that they know him simply because they watch his stream. "A lot of people out there, you think you know me," Love said. "You'll never know me. I know what's so great about the platform, with the interaction and all of that, it feels like we're very close sometimes. There's this whole side of my life — the majority of my life, the majority of me as a person — that you have no idea what's going on. Seeing people casually weigh in about very personal, private subjects to me.... It's just been difficult to read on social media without wanting to just lash out."[5]

He also noted that he found it odd that no-one had noticed his drug abuse, as his streams frequently extended past 24 hours in length, which he deemed not normal behavior. In fact, during one particular stream of Batman:Arkham Knight, he managed to push the stream along for 81 hours. During another stream he even fell asleep on-air.[5]
